Happy Halloween... now go put some clothes on!

I guarantee some of the costumes you'll see throughout the day/night are a bigger setback to women's rights than the entire Romney campaign. When did an Americanized holiday for kids to dress up and get candy turn into an opportunity to dress like a two-bit tramp? Sure, the fun of Halloween is to be something that you "aren't" for a night, but when you look in the mirror before heading out for your wild night of jello shots and processed sugar, what exactly is the message you are trying to send to the world with your outfit? When you google "adult costumes" nowadays, you have to double check your search to make sure you didn't type in "adult films."

I dressed super cute at work today, but I didn't feel compelled to show any A&T. Respect yourselves, ladies. Your femininity isn't tied to your genitals - it is possible to be attractive without channeling Jenna Jameson's nightwear. I'm not saying don't have fun and dress up, but keep your girls tucked in. It says much more about a person when they walk into a room looking confident instead of looking naked.

Contrary to what Obama has told you, you are more than a vagina. Dress like it. Hyper-expoliting your female parts is only an injustice to yourself. Next time you hear someone complaining about guys hitting on them or not taking them seriously, take a minute to think about what they wear when they present themselves to the world. The correlation might be interesting...

Wednesday's Watch: Paul Ryan vs. Debbie Wasserman Schultz

"I'm sure the nuns would be surprised to learn that they can't weigh in on healthcare reform." Yes, she really did say that. This week's video is Debbie Waserman Schultz making a fool of herself in front of Paul Ryan, because it's just too darn fun not to watch!

If Virgil Goode and Gary Johnson had a baby, I might vote for it.

I tried, but I could only watch the first four questions of the third party candidate debate. Jill Stein and Rocky Anderson are on par with Barack Obama to win the crown for "most obnoxiously naive and illogically optimistic."

I don't want to go on and on about candidates I am not supporting (I casted my ballot today for Mitt Romney), but I have decided that if Virgil Goode (minus the horrible voice - smart man, but painful to listen to) and Gary Johnson had a brain-baby, it's possible that I would vote for it... maybe not for president, but at least for a county commissioner, or maybe even a state legislator.

Truth be told, I just really am in love with like Mitt Romney. A lot. But listening to some of the questions/answers in the third party debate definitely impressed me.

P.S. Virgil Goode is the Constitution Party nominee and Gary Johnson is the Libertarian nominee.

The War on Drugs was one of the big questions of the night. Virgil states he would cut federal spending on the war on drugs, but believes that it is ultimately a state issue. However, he is not for legalizing marijuana or other drug use. (Additionally, he is against federal funding of Planned Parenthood and Public Broadcasting -swoon!). In his rebuttal, he simply stated, "If you are for legalizing drugs; don’t vote for me. Vote for one of these others."

Gary Johnson's answer was much different, but I still liked it (to an extent). He is for the legalization of marijuana, and wants to tax/regulate it. I like the idea of profiting off of marijuana, but by the same token, I don't think a libertarian should create more government regulation, by virtue of being a libertarian in the first place. It seems like a second problem/can of worms.

Though I like Johnson's ideas from a practical standpoint, I still do not believe in the legalization of drugs (this needs to be a blog post for another day - long story short, I do not view drug-related crimes as victimless. I studied homelessness and poverty in Los Angeles at the University of Southern California to come to this conclusion). But even if I don't believe in their legalization, I also don't believe in criminalization, packing our prisons with drug users/sellers, and taking power away from the states.

Affordable higher education was the other big topic that made me smile tonight. While the Green/Justice Party candidates' (every) answer sounded something like, "blah blah we are poor/victims, blah blah climate change, I hate drones." Johnson really hit it out of the park. He said something to the effect of "Gee, I don’t think I can afford 15k dollars a semester, I think I'll sit this one out. I can't afford 15k dollars, yet friends and family will point and say look, you can get a government guaranteed student loan." His answer is exactly what free enterprise looks like - you don't give in to the exorbitant rates, so the colleges have to lower their prices in order to get students to attend. Competition, supply and demand, etc. It works.

Virgil Goode sounded like a rockstar to me, too. He said it plain as day: "We can’t afford more federally subsidized student loans and we cant afford more Pell Grants." Bottom line, end of discussion, Game, set, match.

Pumpkins & Politics

Let's do a not-so-serious fun post before the debate! I absolutely love the "With Mitt" app - it's like a Romney-filter Instagram. Naturally, I had to show my support for the Republican Presidential nominee with my Halloween decor this year. See below :)

Remembering Arlen Specter

Arlen Specter is infamous for his switch from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party after a 44 year career as an elected Republican and a 30 year reign in the Senate, but his non-political career is what fascinates me.

After losing his senate seat in 2011, he worked as an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Law. His course discussed the relationship that Congress has with the Supreme Court. He was even named one of the 23 professors to take before you die by National Jurist, a magazine about legal education.

Specter served in the Air Force, attended Yale Law School, was partner in a private law firm, and served as the District Attorney of Philadelphia. Like his politics or not, Specter was a great legal and political mind who accomplished a great deal in his time on earth.

News outlets have reported that Arlen Specter passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012, at age 82. Specter announced in August that he was battling cancer. He reportedly died from complication with non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

A nation divided: Taking the "race card" out of your wallet

It is no doubt that our great nation has a not-so-great past. The Civil War, all the way up through the Jim Crow era, stained America's racial relations - a stain that cannot easily be wiped away. With all of the emotion, violence, and pain of the past, I can't help but wonder... why is this separation continuing?

Point #1: Barack Obama becomes the 44th President of the United States.
Cause: Our nation elects its first President who is not Caucasian.
Effect: Racial differences/separation runs rampant.
Proof: Just look around you - Facebook, Twitter, the radio, news programs, political graffiti... Because Obama is a democrat and also happens to be black, it's as if republicans are anti-black simply because they are anti-democrat.. How does this make sense? How does this explain black republicans?  It doesn't. Further, when was the last time you saw a magazine that explicitly stated it was for whites? I bet you haven't. Yet there is Madame Noir, Essence, Ebony, Black Men, Jet, and Heart and Soul. There is BET but no White Entertainment channel. Are whites so oppressive that ALL entertainment caters to them, and blacks need special outlets? I don't think so. Some of the most famous entertainers/performers of the day are black, and mainstream media reports on them regularly.

Point #2: Obama continues to further divide the races.
Cause: Obama releases a youtube video launching "African Americans for Obama"
Effect: African Americans are directly represented/approached by Obama, whites are not.
Proof: Is there a Whites for Obama video? What about a Whites for Romney video? Of course not. And I strongly doubt there ever will be.

Point #3: Blacks insult whites for their political/religious beliefs.
Cause: Bus driver told a 12-tear-old with a Romney sign in his yard that he should have been aborted.
Effect: Bus driver is changed to a different route, then fired ONLY AFTER increased complaints/uproar from the community.
Proof: Here is Fox and Huffington reporting on the topic here and here. (Further, I am called racist almost daily for displaying my support for Mitt Romney/other republicans but the mindless masses at my liberal indoctrinating school Kennesaw State. Pretty insulting if you ask me.)

Point #4: Blacks condemn other blacks for supporting their candidate of choice... if it is not Obama.
Cause: Actress Stacey Dash announces support for Romney, rapper Snoop Dogg tweets reasons he supports Obama.
Effect: Stacey Dash is repeatedly told she is not black enough, thinks she is white, and is too stupid to vote. Snoop Dogg is praised for using racial slurs against Romney.
Proof: Don't believe me? Search Stacey's name on Twitter and read the replies. Still don't believe me? Look at Snoop Dogg's twitter pictures and read the list, then read all the tweets about how great Snoop is.

Point #5: Obama continues to further divide the races... and not in a good way.
Cause: Welfare, unemployment, entitlement programs - the majority of recipients are black.
Effect: African Americans continue to suffer. The majority of blacks are not advancing.
Proof: Google it. I'm not at all arguing that whites are not taking advantage of entitlement programs or that all blacks do. There are outliers all around. However, of the people that do receive government help, the majority is black.

Here is what it comes down to... Obama is not elevating the African American population; he is hindering it. Think back to MLKJr versus Malcolm X days. King fought for justice and equality. Malcolm told blacks to be proud of what they are. This pride put a stopper on growth and advancement. ANY person, not just members of a particular race, should constantly strive to be better than those that came before him/her. Instead, we have many blacks that are comfortable with the status quo: higher unemployment rates? higher incarceration rates? lower literacy levels? lower percentage of 2-parent families? Malcolm X said to be proud of all of this, because it is what makes you black. I say why have you stopped growing and become complacent? Many people say it is a result of racism. I say bull.

Jim Crow laws have long been abolished. In fact, the opposite is in place - affirmative action is actually a Jim Crow law in reverse for many blacks in America today. Because of this law, many students are not accepted to a school they are well-qualified to go to, simply because the "white" quota has been filled, but the "black" quota has not. Or what about jobs? Do workplaces really need a certain percentage of color, or do they need a certain percentage of skill, education, and expertise? Is an employer or an admissions counsel racist because an applicant didn't meet standard requirements? No, they aren't. Take a minute and think... have you ever heard of a scholarship offered exclusively to whites? I haven't...

Before people begin commenting and calling my racist, remember that: 1.) I moderate all my comments. If you cuss/are rude instead of state your argument and attempt to prove why I'm wrong, your voice will not be heard; and, 2.) I am saying all of this because I don't want blacks to continue failing.

If Malcolm X insisted racial issues are solved by pride, then I don't understand why it is racist to be proud to be white, but empowering to be proud to be black. This is a legitimate question - why is it only okay to be proud if you are "different," especially considering that blacks are far from a minority in America today? (This is not to say blacks are not a minority - it is addressing that the minority is growing smaller every day.)

Government help is nothing new to the African American population. For many years, it was absolutely necessary. It was a constitutional amendment that ended slavery. It was new legislation that eliminated Jim Crow laws. It was affirmative action that gave blacks a chance in higher education. But the advancement has long ended - the question is no longer "how can the government assist me so that I may advance myself?" The question has changed to just "how can the government assist me?" There is a huge difference. It is saddening to see so much potential in the African American community just wasted.

Is it cultural? Maybe. Is it racism? I don't think so.

"I love Joe Biden's dentures!" and other VP Debate Commentary

As usual, my tweets/facebook statuses from the debate:

Why, yes it is! VP debate tonight!

And don't forget last week... I will be posting about the debate, and it will be incredibly slanted towards my own views. I am not the media and I do not have an obligation to be objective. This is your fair warning. Defriend/block/adjust your newsfeed as you deem fit.

FUTURE VP PAUL RYAN!!

Biden does have dentures, right?

Fact is fact: a Youtube video did NOT kill 4 Americans. Al Qaeda did.

There were no protestors... why did that go on for weeks? Damn good question.

US "Intelligence" isn't doing too great with the Obama admin, huh?

"What we should not be apologizing for is defending our values."

"The administration was blocking us every step of the way..."

Made the mistake of reading tweets from Emily's List. I must be a masochist.

I wonder if Obama/Biden know that the President is also the Commander-in-Chief.

"We'll know if they [Iran] are building a weapon!" Just like you KNEW that our Ambassador feared for his life?

This moderator is making me miss the hell out of Jim Lehrer... She talks way too much.

I love Joe Biden's dentures! -said no one, ever

"War should always be the last resort. That's why we let Americans get murdered by Al Qaeda terrorists." Joe Biden

Unemployment fell? We must be on the right track! Oh, it's still incredibly high? Well Obama is still right, you racists! It's Bush's fault!

Did Biden REALLY just preach on personal responsibility??? Let me make this clear: liberals are idiots. Feel free to defriend/unfollow. I stand by it. #VPDebate

Blame Bush: 25 minutes in. 47% comment: 26 minutes in. Romney's taxes: 27 minutes in.

Did Biden REALLY just preach on personal responsibility??? LEt me make this clear: liberals are idiots. Feel free to unfollow.

If I hate Biden, does that make me racist too? Curious.

"I think America knows, words don;t always come out of your mouth the right way..." "But I always say what I mean..." So you mean the middle class is buried? I agree.

Yeah Biden. you're right. Obama has been racking up that credit card. Oh wait, you were talking about Bush? My mistake.

Biden laughing really makes me feel like he connects with the American people who are suffering right now. loljk

Biden stole this "my friend" front from John McCain. It's getting old.

Biden interrupts all night then gripes to Martha that he may not get to finish his answer. ermahgerd shurt urp

"Let's save money by leaving in 2014, damn the lives that need to be saved!" I feel so secure.

"We don't want to broadcast to our enemies, put a date on your calendar!"

If you are supporting Obama, just remember if something happens to him, Biden would take over. God bless us all.

Can we please just understand that Romney/Ryan don't want to get in another war, they want to FINISH what has been started. Osama is dead, but AL QAEDA/TERRORISM IS NOT.

Let the two men talk personally about abortion? I'm sure their uterus would love to speak about it... It's true!! I'm not saying that they can't have a very strong opinion, but they can't have a "personal" opinion. I'm mocking Martha. It was a horribly worded question on her part

Science proving that life begins at conception isn't imposing his religious views on others. But saying tax payers need to pay for abortions? That's pushing your views in the worst way.

If you don't have a good record to run on, you paint a picture of someone to run from. -OBAMA

Biden's closing statements are typical liberal jargon. Poor middle class, poor woman with 18 baby-daddies on food stamps who don't want to work. Mean old rich people are sooooo greedy. GET OVER IT. #attack #blame #defame

Biden might finally get the Miss America title with that generic "world peace" crap he spouted all night.

Level the playing field: aka let's penalize the successful to falsely praise/raise the lazy and unsuccessful. ?

I hate Biden/love Ryan, but if these debates are for moderates/swing voters, Republicans (and Democrats) need to chill the cockiness. We each think our candidate won, but the truth is this debate was atrocious, the format was awful, and the interrupting from all was ridiculous. Swing voters probably didn't stick around for the whole thing.

Wednesday's Watch: Bad Lip Reading, Presidential Debate Style

A non-partisan mid week laugh. Bad Lip Reading videos never fail to crack me up, and now they have made a parody for the first presidential debate.

New Rules & Righting Past Wrongs

New Rules

I have allowed anonymous commenting in the past; that has now officially been changed.

First and foremost, if you read the "about me" on this blog, you know it is coming from a conservative point of view. Using an anonymous comment to cuss (instead of discuss) your views is not appropriate.

Further, I have had several people comment who know me in real life, and have known me for years, yet they still comment anonymously - the only reason they are doing so is to criticize me on a personal level. Personal attacks do nothing but hurt feelings and detract from your point.

Clearly, I am very opinionated and very set in my views. If you are of the opposite view, that is fine. Frankly, I don't care. If you are as passionate about your opinions as I am about mine, then I will never be able to change your opinion... and that is fine. But being rude or hateful or personal doesn't make anyone want to change their views to yours. In fact, you are doing yourself a disservice and seeming much less credible.

Also, if I receive comment moderations email in excess of 2 within a matter of minutes, you are trolling multiple posts. Your comments will not be approved or replied to. You need a hobby.

If you want to comment on my blog, please please please read the entire post. Don't read one line and post an inflamed response. That ruins any conversation we could have had.

Righting Past Wrongs

Personal attacks - this is ludicrous. I, like every single other human being in the past, have made mistakes. I have done things I am not proud of. I have spent my time with people I shouldn't have, I have relied on people to make me feel better about myself, and I have acted in a way that I wish I could take back.

Does this taint me for life? Am I always that one person? Have I learned nothing? Is there not a way for me to change and grow as a person?

I am not proud of all of my past actions and I know for a fact that I have made mistakes. This does not make me a bad person, nor does it mean I cannot be a better person in the future. Furthermore, I hope I am never so bitter and insecure in my own skin that I feel the need to criticize the private actions of others to promote my own opinions or reinforce my own thinking.

No matter what my past is, I am proud of the person I am today and I will continue every day to work hard, speak my mind, and make better choices in the future than I have in the past.

-Tori

Attention all sluts: let your freak flag fly!

Solid advice for women, right? I guess, if you want women to conform to the lowest common denominator among their gender.
“Did you know that some people use slut in a positive way? They use it to define a woman who is confident in her sexuality and being the sexual being that she is. I personally think there’s a little bit of slut in all of us. So embrace it!”
So says Francisco Ramirez, gay rights activist, to viewers of MTV. Two problems here:
1.) Who watches MTV? YOUNG FOLKS. Young, impressionable teenagers who, instead of looking towards a positive role model, see glory in the orange-skinned guidos of Jersey Shore and the trashy psuedo-families of 16 & Pregnant or Teen Mom.
2.) Planned Parenthood shared this video on there teen outreach Facebook page. What.....?!

Want proof that Planned Parenthood is the source of the so-called War on Women? You can see it for yourself. This organization tries to justify their services by touting their breast cancer screening and rates of early detection, yet it encourages young women to embrace their inner-slut. How is this anything but detrimental to women?

"Here at Planned Parenthood, why don't you come in on for a breast cancer screening. Then, stick around for an STD screening since it's totally cool if you want to sleep with everything in sight! While you're at it, head on down the hallway for an abortion... it's not your fault you got pregnant! You shouldn't be punished for your decisions!"

If Planned Parenthood's focus was truly women's health and safety, as their pink protest signs say, then they are doing a pretty shoddy job promoting health and safety. "Don't worry, ladies. If you get an STD, it's fine. Got AIDs? Embrace it! That's your inner-slut shining through!"

How about instead of encouraging the future female leaders of the world to sleep around and not feel bad about it, we start teaching them the results of promiscuity (i.e.: pregnancy, disease, etc.)? Does teaching women to do whatever the hell they want with no thought to the consequences of their action promote confidence? No. If you want to promote confidence, teach women to RESPECT THEMSELVES. What a shocking concept! Respecting your own body and expecting other's to do the same? Groundbreaking idea, Tori! (Yes, thank you, thank you, I know. I'm simply brilliant.) Promoting promiscuity implies that women need sex (aka- approval from a male partner) to feel good about themselves. That means (drum roll, please) that Planned Parenthood is inherently sexist because it reinforces the idea that a woman's worth and pride should come through sexual validation.

Planned Parenthood is doing a huge injustice to women by promoting promiscuity. I'm not proposing that PP start denouncing women who are sexual active or "slut-shaming" them, but how about a little accountability? Furthermore, if Planned Parenthood is all about "family planning" and having a child when it is right for you, why encourage behavior that can lead to unplanned pregnancies? I'm going to tell you a secret... if you don't have sex, you will not get pregnant before you are ready. Crazy, shocking, and true.

First of all, abortion is NOT birth control. Bottom line. Using abortion as a get-out-of-jail free card isn't promoting the right of a woman to choose, it shows a lack of responsibility.

Secondly, if you get an STD, it may be because you thought it was okay to sleep with someone every night of the week like Snooki. How is Ramirez's solid advice working out for you now that you have herpes?

Lastly, if you can't walk through your school/work/church/grocery store without people whispering about what a tramp you are or calling you a whore, maybe it isn't society's fault for shaming you. Maybe, just maybe, you brought this reaction upon yourself. Maybe sleeping with 3 guys at one party and then tweeting about it was a bad idea. Maybe you should take responsibility for your actions and behavior and accept the image you chose to make for yourself?

I mean, just maybe Planned Parenthood and MTV aren't the best role models for you... Maybe.

Watch the attack on young women for yourself right here: http://mtvvoices.com/en/2012/08/sextra-credit-episode-2/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=post&utm_content=francisco2&utm_campaign=teensfb
